JFA Yachts Launches Its New Long Island 87’

JFA Yachts continues to develop its Long Island range with the launch and stepping of the new Long Island 87’, a 26.25-metre sailing catamaran designed to combine sailing performance, autonomy, comfort and reliability.

Originating from the Long Island range, whose first two Long Island 85’ models have demonstrated their capabilities on voyages in regions as diverse as Antarctica, Greenland, the Pacific and the Baltic Sea, this new model retains the range’s core strengths while introducing a fresh approach to onboard living spaces.

An expansive flybridge, the signature feature of the Long Island 87’

A defining feature of this new model, the flybridge stands out for its exceptional size and versatility. Designed as a fully fledged living space in its own right, it features two helm stations, a sheltered bar and a spacious lounge.

Its layout offers a variety of settings and uses, from navigation to relaxation and socialising, while providing panoramic views of the sea. The flybridge roof is also fitted with solar panels to contribute to onboard electricity generation at anchor and reduce reliance on generators.

Far more than simply a helm station, this expansive upper deck embodies the philosophy behind the Long Island 87’: making outdoor living an essential part of the onboard experience, without compromising on comfort or bluewater cruising capabilities.

Generous living spaces, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor areas

Designed by Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, responsible for the naval architecture, the Long Island 87’ has a beam of 11.93 metres, allowing for particularly generous living spaces.

On the main deck, the layout creates a natural flow between the interior and exterior. The cockpit, lounge and dining area benefit from abundant natural light, while the outdoor cockpit and sunbathing areas invite guests to make the most of life at sea.

Aft, the platform accommodates a 5-metre tender and can be transformed at anchor into a dedicated space for relaxation and water sports.

Inside, generous volumes and large openings maximise natural light and create a seamless connection between the different living areas. With a total living area of 124 m², the Long Island 87’ offers spacious accommodation for up to 10 guests and 4 crew members in optimal comfort.

The interior design has once again been entrusted to Darnet Design, continuing its collaboration with JFA Yachts to create a bespoke atmosphere tailored to the owner’s expectations.

The owner’s cabin, which spans the full width of the main deck, stands out for its exceptional dimensions for a yacht of this size and its 180-degree panoramic views. The arrangement of the cabins across the two hulls ensures privacy for everyone on board. The port hull houses the owner’s bathroom, a children’s cabin with four berths and an aft guest cabin. The starboard hull features a second guest cabin, along with the crew quarters, including a skipper’s cabin, a crew cabin, a galley and a crew mess.

The Long Island DNA: performance, reliability and build quality

Faithful to JFA Yachts’ design philosophy, the Long Island 87’ combines aluminium hulls with a composite deck and superstructure. This construction delivers a light displacement, contributing to strong sailing performance and comfort at sea during long-distance passages.

With its launch and mast stepping, the Long Island 87’ now fully reveals its lines and proportions. Its spectacular flybridge, generous volumes and approach to onboard living embody JFA Yachts’ ambition to create a bluewater cruising catamaran that combines seakeeping qualities with exceptional comfort at sea.

‘We are very excited to launch this Long Island 87’ project. We found this yacht to be the perfect balance between performance under sail and functional living spaces. The Long Island 87’ is the optimal proven blue water sailing catamaran available in the market today and well suited for our specific mission, to circumnavigate the globe with our family of four in unparalleled comfort, safety, and luxury.’ comments the future owner.

The yacht was sold by David Johnson – Denison Yachting, who represented the client and was subsequently entrusted with the overall marketing of the Long Island range.
