This 41-metre sailing yacht represents a deliberate departure from conventional categorisations within the large yacht sector. It is conceived not as a compromise between motor yacht comfort and sailing yacht performance, but as a synthesis of both—resulting in a new typology that integrates the spatial generosity, operational simplicity, and amenity standards of a motor yacht with the quietness, efficiency, and environmental responsiveness of a modern sailing vessel.

At its core, the concept is driven by a redefinition of volume usage and functional zoning. The yacht is structured around two fully developed deck levels, each treated with the spatial and experiential completeness typically reserved for larger motor yachts. Rather than stacking functions vertically in a hierarchical manner, the design distributes key lifestyle areas across both decks to create a sequence of independent yet visually connected environments. This approach generates a network of “privacy islands” throughout the vessel, allowing simultaneous use by owners, guests, and crew without overlap or interruption of experience. Circulation is intentionally separated and clarified, supported by a central hydraulic glass elevator that connects beach club, salon, and cockpit levels. This vertical mobility element is not treated as a feature of luxury, but as a structural necessity within a multi-deck spatial logic.

The exterior architecture expresses a modern, restrained formal language that bridges the traditional divide between motor yacht massing and sailing yacht proportion. The superstructure is conceived as a continuous, sculpted volume rather than a collection of stacked deckhouses. Large glazed surfaces and continuous horizon lines reduce visual fragmentation and reinforce the perception of a singular, coherent object. The hull and superstructure colour separation—light hull with a darker superstructure—further emphasises the longitudinal reading of the vessel while maintaining a low visual centre of gravity at sea.

A defining element of the concept is the completely re-engineered rig. The sailing system is based on twin carbon masts with a configuration of staysails and fisherman sails, designed specifically to minimise operational complexity while maintaining reliable performance across a wide range of conditions. The rig prioritises ease of handling, reduced crew dependency, and high intrinsic safety margins. Hydraulic furling systems below deck, captive winches, integrated sail tracks, and self-tacking geometry eliminate many of the manual interventions typically associated with yachts of this size. The result is a sailing system that behaves more like an automated energy platform than a traditional rig, allowing sailing to be fully integrated into daily yacht operation rather than treated as a specialised activity.

From a naval architectural perspective, the yacht is optimised for a dual-mode operational profile. Under power, propulsion is provided by a single main engine system based on a Cummins QSM 11 platform, delivering efficient cruising at approximately 9 knots with extended range capability. Under sail, hydrodynamic efficiency is enhanced through a refined hull form and a choice of keel configurations, including fixed and hydraulically adjustable lift keel options. This flexibility allows the yacht to be adapted to different cruising grounds and performance expectations without altering its fundamental geometry.

The most significant spatial innovation is located aft, where the beach club is developed as a fully open, multi-functional waterfront environment. This space extends the yacht’s usable volume directly to sea level and is designed to exceed the spatial standards of many motor yachts in its category. Large side openings and a fully opening transom create a continuous platform between interior and exterior. When required for sailing operations, the entire beach club can be enclosed via a concealed watertight closure system integrated into the deck structure. This duality—open architectural landscape versus sealed seaworthy volume—defines the adaptive character of the aft section.

Interior organisation follows the same principle of distributed autonomy. Guest suites, owner areas, salon, and service spaces are arranged to allow independent occupation without hierarchical interference. Acoustic separation strategies, including rubber-mounted soles, isolated bulkheads, and vibration-decoupled technical systems, reinforce the sensation of calm and detachment throughout the vessel. This focus on acoustic performance is essential to the overall design intent: a sailing yacht that delivers motor yacht comfort without mechanical intrusion or perceptible system noise.

The collaboration between beiderbeck designs GmbH and Isola Corvus Ltd defines the conceptual framework of the project: a shared intention to move beyond conventional categorisation of sailing versus motor yachts. Instead, the design explores a hybrid typology in which propulsion method does not dictate lifestyle quality or spatial organisation. The yacht is not positioned as a reinterpretation of an existing archetype, but as an independent architectural system designed around contemporary expectations of privacy, autonomy, and operational ease.

Ultimately, this concept challenges the assumption that sailing yachts must remain mechanically or spatially constrained compared to motor yachts of equivalent size. By combining advanced rig technology, distributed interior architecture, and a motor yacht-level amenity structure, the design proposes a vessel that operates equally as a silent sailing platform and as a fully equipped floating residence. The result is not a compromise between two worlds, but a deliberate fusion that establishes its own design category—defined by efficiency, clarity, and a new form of onboard freedom.
