Fast Cruiser – Sailing Yacht 114′
Glass deck lights up Design Unlimited and Reichel Pugh 35m sailing yacht
The standout design feature on a new 35 metre sailing superyacht concept collaboration from Design Unlimited and Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design is the glass covered deck, which brings light into the main saloon. The fully glazed ceiling is designed to light up the interior spaces while ensuring privacy while in port.
Use of extensive glazing is also seen in the lower deck guest cabins, which have large portholes and skylights to capture natural light.
British studio Design Unlimited has worked with naval architects Reichel/Pugh on the design for the new 35 metre sailing superyacht, which is intended equally for high-performance racing and comfortable cruising.
“This is a fast, beautiful yacht that will appeal to an owner who revels in fast sailing and the experience of being poised between water and sky,” said Design Unlimited’s Mark Tucker. “With its ability to deliver both comfortable family cruising and competitive racing in the exciting world of superyacht regattas, it promises the best of sailing in all its forms.”
The focus on bringing light in is a good fit for the interior design, which is said to be inspired by combining “natural materials with modern manufacturing techniques.” The intended result will be a clean and sculptural interior decorated in natural, organic materials that highlight texture.
Technology will also be skilfully integrated into the design, such as the indirect LED lighting, which will be recessed into the joinery and combined with copper fittings to diffuse the power of the lighting.
In order to exceed the latest standards for lightweight and quiet yachts, the interior will be built in a carbon fibre and foam cored structure.
